You have powdered and blended. You have beaten and whisked. You have toasted and roasted. Now it is time to warmly cook your fantasy on your usual electric stove. You start the oven and nothing heats up. Understanding some basic problems for an electric range that you can take care of by hand can perhaps save you time and money.

Check Electricity for Your Stove-top

An electric range will not do the job if it lacks juice. The clear question that that a person should consider is if your electric stove-top is in reality plugged in to an outlet. If verified, verify your breaker (or fuse) is set. In all probability you blew a fuse. If everything checks out so far, confirm the current of the plug using a current checking device like a voltage tester. If you don’t have one handy, plugging a portable blender into the outlet should at minimum tell you if the juice is flowing.

Verify the Heating Elements

Confirm that your stove-top is unplugged. Take a peek at the heating coil of the one that is not heating. If the heating element is visibly damaged, buy a replacement element and change it out. If the heating coil looks OK, put it into a operating burner and switch the oven back on. If the heating element will not come on, buy a new one and swap the broken one with the new one.

During the time you are looking around in your stove-top, over again with the power off, check the plug-in terminals. If you discover corrosion, remove it using fine sandpaper or an emery board. Do not use steel wool, as the very fine pieces can get fixed in the terminals and cause a short when turning the power on.

If the heating coil ran in the running spot, you have a unique problem. Be sure to unplug the range again. Keep a record of the heating element burner receptacles wires to their working burner terminals. Test the wires using a multimeter set to RX1. If the receptacle doesn’t pass, you have to remove the holder and fix a new holder in its spot.

Extension Cords

Stay away from using extension cords with your range. Period.

Please Be Cautious

Electricity can be extremely dangerous, especially for an individual who does not have much previous experience engaged in electrical repairs. If you have any second thoughts at all about mending your electric range by yourself, ask someone who has more training to stop in and help you through it.

If you have no one available, time to call in a qualified repairman.
